Wolf & Woman Syrah 2023

Tasting Note:This has a generous, floral bouquet with redcurrant, wild strawberry and just a slight touch of Provenal herbs. I’d just like a little more delineation. The palate is medium-bodied with bolder tannins and darker fruit, brambly in character and oddly, quite Pinotage-like in style, perhaps due to the stem addition. Theres fine sappiness on the finish. Wolf & Woman Syrah showcases the diversity of Swartland soils with a blend from two vineyardsone in red, iron-rich soils and the other in schist soils. Grapes are hand-picked, cold-soaked for 24 hours, and undergo natural fermentation in open-top fermenters with 100% whole bunches. After 12 days on skins, the wine ages for 10 months in old oak barrels, resulting in a deep ruby-colored wine with aromas of red and black fruit, fynbos, spice, and dark pepper. The palate offers good fruit concentration, savory notes, structured tannins, and balanced acidity. This 100% Syrah reflects its Swartland origin with vineyards averaging 25 years old, yielding 2,100 bottles with 13.8% alcohol, pH 3.8, and minimal sulfur dioxide.
