Veuve Clicquot Le Grand Dame Rose 2015

98 pointsBettane & Desseauve Guide(2025).

96 points John Gilman (View From the Cellar): “The 2015 vintage of Veuve Clicquots ‘La Grande Dame’ Ros is composed from a cpages of ninety percent pinot noir and ten percent chardonnay, with thirteen percent of the pinot noir being still red wine in this vintage. It was disgorged in March of 2023, after eight years aging sur latte and finished with a dosage of eight grams per liter. The wine is a beautifully deep salmon color and delivers an utterly refined aromatic constellation of strawberries, blood orange, a touch of sumac, chalky soil tones, rye bread, rose petals and a delicate topnote of smokiness. On the palate the wine is pure, full-bodied, focused and shows off stunning depth at the core, with fine mineral undertow and grip, a lovely girdle of acidity, utterly refined mousse and a long, complex and impeccably balanced finish. This is a brilliant bottle of Ros! 2024-2065. (Mar/Apr 2024)”

95 points Tom Hewson (Decanter): “The widow Clicquot gave us Champagne’s first ros by the assemblage method in 1818. Almost 200 years later, the Veuve Clicquot house is using a plot of Pinot Noir the Clos Colin in Bouzy owned by Madame Clicquots husband to make a red wine, 13% of which is added to the white Grande Dame blend to make La Grande Dame Ros. Just like the white version, this shows the best of 2015, its juicy strawberry shortcake fruit is friendly and warm up front. Tucked inside are intriguing layers of allspice, pink grapefruit, satsuma and jellied fruits, with a touch of brown bread richness, but little overt creaminess or butteriness yet. There is an edgier, cranberry and hedgerow-fruit side too, which shows the vintage, but it stops well short of some of the harshness of 2015, showing the potential to surprise greatly with further ageing. Impressive. Drinking Window: 2025-2035. (2/28/24)”

95 pointsWine Spectator: “[$320 list] Steeped cherry and raspberry fruit flavors are accented by tea rose, grated ginger and blood orange zest aromatics in this graceful ros Champagne, in a vinous style. Lively on the palate, with bright acidity and a fine mousse, plus a minerally underpinning of smoke, oyster shell and chalk notes driving the racy, well-spiced finish. Pinot Noir and Chardonnay. Disgorged March 2023. Drink now through 2035. (9/25/24)”

95 pointsFalstaff: “Strong copper red, orange reflections, very fine, persistent mousse. Fine nuances of preserved cherry, cranberry, candied mandarin zest, a hint of herbs, mineral undertones. Taut, white apple, nuances of currant, lively acid structure, salty notes, lime on the finish, a finesse-rich style, good length and assured ageing potential, a dry, taut food companion. (5/24/24)”

93+ points William Kelley (Wine Advocate): “A blend of 90% Chardonnay and 10% Pinot Noir (with 13% of red wine), the 2015 Brut Ros La Grande Dame exhales a complex, elegant bouquet of red berries, flowers, spices, pastry and citrus blossom. Medium to full-bodied, fleshy and vinous, its perfectly balanced with a pinpoint mousse, a delicate core of fruit and an ethereal, long and mineral finish. This lovely rendition of La Grande Dame Ros could age well over the next decade. Drink: 2024-2054. (3/29/24)”
