The GlenAllachie’s Virgin Oak Series presents a new whisky that highlights the influence of oak provenance, terroir, and genus on flavor development during maturation. The 10-year-old expression starts its journey in American Oak ex-Bourbon Barrels before undergoing a finishing period in hogsheads made of Quercus Robur from the Spanish Cantabrian mountains.
The oak was seasoned for 18 months in the open air before being toasted and charred to unlock the pores for maximum flavor extraction. The result is a unique flavor profile that showcases the influence of Spanish oak on the whisky.
Tasting Notes:
Color
The whisky has a rich mahogany color.
Nose
The nose is filled with the aromas of orchard fruits, baking spices, sticky toffee pudding, and notes of brown sugar, glazed cherries, and citrus.
Taste
On the palate, it is bursting with flavors of chocolate, coffee, and heather honey, followed by notes of pepper, ginger, and molasses. The finish is long and satisfying, with hints of bananas and sultanas.
