Drinking Window 2030 – 2060
The lemon-colored 2021 Grand Cru Schlossberg is clear, refined and floral on the concentrated, slightly iodine, finely tannic and granitic nose that reveals some speck and lemon chutney aromas and is perhaps a little bit reductive at this stage. It has ripe and concentrated apricot flavors. On the palate, this is a quite rich and tight yet still reductive and thus quite hard and phenolic-finishing Riesling that probably doesn’t have the generosity and complexity of the 2022 but might also be in a valley today. It’s quite dry on the finish and aftertaste. 13.5% stated alcohol. Natural cork. Tasted at the domaine in April 2024.

Drinking Window 2025 – 2060
The 2021 Schlossberg Grand Cru is made from mostly Riesling with a little Pinot Gris and Muscat, rooting in granite with almost no topsoil. The nose opens with lemon and bergamot overtones, later opening into Mirabelle. The palate is a superb streak of purest but ripe lemon freshness, tingling like ripe Amalfi zest, crystalline, exquisite and thrilling. Concentrated, dry and uncompromising, but all the more compelling for it. (Bone-dry) – By Anne Krebiehl MW on February 2023

Riesling and a field-blending of all the Alsatian grapes(ALWAYS bone dry)
On a very steep hillside that required the installation of terraces. More than a thousand meters of retaining walls, built in the middle Ages, have since been patiently restored. The terraces lie between 230 and 400m altitude. The material constituting the bedrock results from the crystallization by metamorphism of migmatites (mixture ofgneissand granite) and of granite withbiotiteof Kaysersberg but rich in sand. The sandy soil is rich in diverse mineral elements (potassium, magnesium, fluorine, phosphorus) and the water retention is low here.
