The 2023 Victoria #2 is sweeter and more intense than the #1 but still young and fresh, bottled unoaked. This also comes from old vines on slate soils in the Axarqua zone of Mlaga. The grapes are dried in the shadow inside the winery to achieve further concentration, and the wines have natural alcohol. This fermented in stainless steel, and the fermentation was stopped by cooling it when it has achieved 11% alcohol. It was kept with lees for around six months. This is their flagship sweet wine and the largest production, with a pale color and a spicy and faintly toasty nose from more concentration, and it has more peach and honey notes. It has 11% alcohol, a pH of 3.20, 7.3 grams of acidity and 200 grams of sugar. It’s dense and oily, very balanced, with more of everything, including concentration, persistence and length. This comes in 375-centiliter bottles. 25,000 bottles were filled in February 2024.

I tasted the sweet wines from US wine importer Jorge Ordoez in his homeland in Mlaga. He’s been producing wine since 2004, initially with the help and inspiration from Austrian sweet wine guru Alois Kracher. His son Vctor is now involved in the operations. Published:Oct 03, 2024

92pts Vinous
Light, vivid gold. Expansive aromas of orange, peach nectar and honey, with a light touch of candied ginger. Densely packed and palate-staining, offering ripe orchard/pit fruit liqueur flavors that display excellent focus and power. Finishes supple and broad, leaving energetic notes of orange pith and bitter peach pit behind. I really like the combination of decadent sweetness and energy of this wine. (seven kilograms of fruit used per half bottle; 250 g/l residual sugar)

Jorge Ordez & Co. is renowned for championing Spains classic grape varieties, and the No. 2 Victoria Moscatel NV is a stellar example of Muscats aromatic brilliance. Crafted from late-harvested Moscatel grapes from select Andalusian vineyards, this non-vintage wine highlights the regions sun-soaked climate and old-vine concentration.

Vinification & Technical Notes:
Grapes are carefully hand-picked and partially dried to concentrate sugars and aromas. Fermentation is halted early to retain natural sweetness, and the wine is aged briefly in neutral vessels to maintain freshness and aromatic purity. Bottling is done with minimal intervention, preserving the wines vibrant character.

Tasting Notes:
The No. 2 Victoria shows intense floral aromas of orange blossom and honeysuckle, intertwined with ripe apricot, tangerine, and a touch of candied citrus peel. On the palate, it is luscious but balanced, with lively acidity that lifts the sweetness and a long, fragrant finish. Its expressive aromatics and silky texture make it instantly approachable yet layered enough for contemplative sipping.

Terroir:
Vineyards are planted on sandy and calcareous soils in warm Andalusian sun, producing grapes with both concentration and aromatic precision. The regions dry climate and long ripening period ensure intensely perfumed, flavorful fruit.

Serving & Pairing:
Serve slightly chilled (1012C / 5054F). Perfect as an apritif, or paired with fruit tarts, almond pastries, foie gras, or blue cheeses.
