THE workhorse Chianti in my home. I STILL love this wine and it is one of the most consistent and best bang for your buck red wines out there in my opinion. You can ALSO age this as well as it will go 10 years easy, maybe more in a year like 2016. Drink NOW, better with a short decant, or HOLD.

• The same vineyards as the Riserva above, but the selections are different and the vinification is different
• De-stemmed and pressed, the must is fermented and macerated in stainless steel for 12-165days at cooler temps to preserve fruit, aromatics and freshness.
• In March-April after malo is complete, the new wine goes into medium-size Slavonian oak barrels, and into twice and thrice used French oak barrels for 12 months of maturation
• The final blend is assembled, bottled, and aged in bottle 3 more months.

The 2021 Chianti Classico Berardenga is boisterous and expressive right out of the glass. Dark fruit, earthiness, leather, spice and tobacco convey tons of Castelnuovo Berardenga character. The 2021 keeps getting better in the glass. It’s a super-classic example of the house style and a wine readers should consider buying by the case. The Berardenga bottling can be a bit wild, but in 2021 has an added touch of sophistication that is undeniable. – By Antonio Galloni on June 2022
