The 2022 Nuits Saint-Georges Roncire 1er Cru (one of Etienne Grivot’s favorites from this appellation) showed a little reduction on the nose. However, it is nicely detailed: more black than red fruit with pressed violets gradually emerging, lending it a Vosne-like allure. The palate is medium-bodied with fine tannins and good backbone. It becomes peppery towards the second half, with a lilting nonchalance on the finish. It doesn’t want to grab the limelight; this is a discrete and very pleasurable Roncires in the making.
(91-94) Jasper Morris
Medium crimson ruby in colour. A very fine perfumed nose, with a blacker note on top of the red fruit, the touch of garrigue for which Roncires is noted, a saline touch also behind the red fruit, with some orange zest. An interesting complex wine with good length. Drink from 2030-2038. Tasted: November 2023.
(92-95) pts Burghound
Firm reduction dominates the fruit today. More interesting are the super-sleek and beautifully defined medium weight flavors that deliver even better length on the mildly austere and decidedly firm finale. Here too better depth would be desirable but the potential aging curve is such that more will develop in time. (Drink starting 2034)

Nuits-Saint-Georges Les Roncire 1er cru lies in the Zone de Saint-Georges or central section of Nuits-Saint-Georges near the town itself. Roncire takes its name because the soil is so poor that it is said only ronces (mulberries) can grow there. It is produced from a 0.5-hectare parcel from vines planted in 1959.
