2020 Monfalletto
Cordero di Montezemolo
La Morra, Barolo
Montezemelo is from the west side of the region in La Morra, known for the highest altitude in the region and more clay soils that give a touch more plushness in style of wine, showcasing more fruit, but make no mistake there is plenty of tannin. La Morra is the epitome of the velvet glove with an iron fist. Monfalletto hails from a few vineyards around La Morra, but mostly from the winery near the iconic cedar of Lebanon (pic above).

The 2020 Barolo Monfalletto is a pretty serious wine. Dark and ample, with big tannins, the 2020 is a rich, dense Monfalletto that is going to need a number of years to come into its own. This is an especially dense, potent La Morra Barolo built on texture. Red fruit, blood orange, spice and new leather underscore this very rich wine.
Antonio Galloni – Nov 2023: Alberto Cordero di Montezemolos 2020 Barolos are impressive. As always, Cordero likes to bleed the musts, which results in wines that have a bit more concentration than those of his neighbors. Aging for the single vineyard wines is relatively short at 18 months, while the Monfalletto spends more time in wood, as it is a much larger production wine that is blended from multiple lots. The Gattera, all Michet clone Nebbiolo taken from two spots in the vineyard, is especially impressive.
