Domaine des Chasseignes is a family-run estate in Sury-en-Vaux, at the heart of the Sancerre appellation in Frances Loire Valley. Its story begins with Alphonse Dezat and his wife Josphine, great-grandparents of current proprietor Aurore Dezat. Originally a mixed farm with livestock, grain fields, and a few vineyard parcels, it was under the care of their son, Marcel, that the viticultural focus began to grow. Marcel expanded the vineyard holdings, including planting the lieu-ditLes Chasseignesone of the familys first plots and now among Sancerres most celebrated sites.
The third generation, Denis Dezat and his brother Claude, further increased vineyard plantings and gradually shifted the farms activities away from livestock toward dedicated winemaking.
In 2011, Aurore Dezat assumed leadership of the domaine, joined in 2016 by her husband, David Girard. Bringing extensive expertise in organic and biodynamic viticulture, David has guided the estate toward full organic certification, set to be achieved in 2023.
Today, Aurore and David farm 9.5 hectares within the Sancerre appellation: 8.11 hectares planted to Sauvignon Blanc and 1.39 hectares to Pinot Noir. The vineyards, mostly around Sury-en-Vaux, span the appellations three emblematic terroirsTerres Blanches,Caillottes, andSilexeach contributing its own expression to the wines of Domaine des Chasseignes.
