The first version of Sea was made in 1995, when Chilean wine was just venturing into the category of “icon” wines. Today it’s a member of Chile’s wine royalty, now 100% from its own vineyards on the western side of the Aconcagua Valley, about 40 kilometers from the Pacific Ocean, and all under biodynamic management. The 2020 wine follows the path of recent years with its fresh character and deliciously juicy red fruits. The texture is fine yet dense and full of very sharp tannins. The 2020 vintage has a relatively low 13.5 alcohol by volume.
Blend: 53% Cabernet Sauvignon, 25% Malbec, 15% Carmenere and 7% Petit Verdot.
96 Points –Gismondi on Wine
The 2020 has a mouth structure that speaks to dense sweet tannins that I have not experienced before with Sea, allowing the harmony to begin from the start. Look for primarily red fruit notes of cherries, raspberries, and plums, florals, and a dusting of balsamic spice. More red fruit, black olives, and spice round out this stylish Sea, one that will go the distance, likely two decades in the bottle. You need only be patient. (Anthony Gismondi).
