The 2021 Il Carbonaione is a regal, elegant wine. Silky, beautifully perfumed and persistent, the 2021 is everything I want from Il Carbonaione. All the purity of Sangiovese caresses the senses in a wine that is both textually intense and also light on its feet. Dark red-toned fruit, rose petals, cinnamon, new leather and cedar are some of the many nuances that open in the glass. Silky, polished tannins wrap it all together in style. I would give this a few years in bottle, or a healthy decant if that is not possible. Drinking Window:2026-2041

I was deeply impressed with the Poggio Scalette wines this year. The estate has had some ups and downs of late. These wines are a poignant reminder of what is possible here when everything works.

This is the wine conceived and desired by Vittorio Fiore after long years of study, thought, and working experience and it is the result of an exceptional pairing and synergy: Sangiovese and the Ruffoli vineyards in Greve in Chianti. The results of this synergy – the grapes harvested in the Carbonaione vineyard – are worked with passion and dedication by Vittorio Fiore and his son Jurij in order to obtain a wine of great power and elegance, one capable of expressing in all of its richness the terroir in which it is born.
