90-92 pts Wine Advocate (William Kelley)
The 2023 Pommard Vendanges Entire is produced from a visual selection of the estate’s most attractive fruitincluding its premiers crus. Four barrels were produced, and it has turned out very nicely, offering up pretty aromas of petals and sweet red berries, followed by a medium-bodied, supple and suave palate that’s melting and fine-boned.

It has now been several years since Simon Goutard and Jeanne Joillot took the reins at this small Pommard domaine. The late Jean-Luc Joillot, who produced rather structured, old-fashioned representations of Pommard, was a nurseryman by training and resisted ripping up old vines; so today, the estate’s patrimony is rather enviable. In the last few years, winemaking has been dialed in, with gentle extraction and more integrated new oak (sourced from Trmeaux, Cavin and Chassin) to lend the wines more immediate appeal. This was a strong portfolio in the abundant 2023 vintage, and the results come recommended.
90-92 JM – Jasper Morris Inside Burgundy
Only Brescul. 100% whole bunch vinification, 5 barrels, in bottle. Tasted ready. A little pink has crept into the ruby colour. Fresh cherry and strawberry, lighter than the Pommard Vieilles Vignes, floral, well-judged and particularly persistent. Drink from 2028-2033. Tasted Oct 2024.
Our Tasting Note
13.5% ABV
Vibrant medium+ transparent ruby red. A med+, persistent, very attractive and pretty nose. Perfumed red cherry, strawberry, and pomegranate, with a pleasant, slightly bitter dark chocolate, subtle spices of clove and cinnamon show secondary youth, with fresh cut flowers. Medium bodied, medium velvety youthful tannins, wonderfully integrated acidity with the med+ flavor intensity confirming the nose. A long, pretty and persistent finish. Solid!
We just tasted it and found it quite compelling, as did William Kelley of the Wine Advocate apparently. We were surprised to find this out after we tried it as these wines do not normally get reviewed, but apparently the kids at the domaine are taking things in a newer, more current direction: terroir first! So, hearing that new things were afoot, William Kelley paid them a visit late last year. Apparently, the dad loved to use oak. Why wouldn’t he? He made and sold his wines in the 80-00s era that saw new oak proliferate winemaking everywhere. The best wine producers these days have learned that while oak is a good thing, when used more judiciously to make a more balanced expression of any kind of wine is the sweet spot.
What makes this wine unique is that clusters from all of the Pommard vineyard sites that they own, from village up to premier cru, end up in this wine, thus the name Vendanges Entire which translates to “Whole Harvest”.
