“No Renaissance was produced in this vintage. Reminding me of the 2017, the 2022 Cornas reveals gorgeous red and black fruits, violets, bouquet garni, and gamey, iron-like nuances. Medium to full-bodied on the palate, it has fine tannins, beautiful overall balance, plenty of mid-palate depth, and a gorgeous finish. This is well worth your time and money, and I’d be thrilled with bottles in the cellar. Hide bottles for 5-7 years and enjoy over the following two decades. Drink 2030-2050.This is another beautiful lineup from the Clape family. The 2023s are supple and upfront, with terrific depth of fruit. Due to tiny yields, no Renaissance cuve was produced in 2022, and the Grand Vin is brilliant stuff, with a sunny yet concentrated, structured style that reminds me of the estate’s 2017. These are beautiful, classic Cornas that readers will love. In addition, don’t miss theirSaint-Pray, a fresher, crisp, absolutely delicious white. Drink: 2030-2050. (5/9/25)”

“A tasting of various barrel samples suggests that the 2022 vintage here will be very good, if not necessarily the most powerful year. The fruit is quite dark in character and there’s a good sense of purity if not the same freshness as 2021 or 2020, or the grandeur of 2019. Nonetheless, an excellent wine and a fairly typical expression of Clape Cornas. Tannins are ripe and elegant. Drinking Window: 2030-2034. (9/18/23)

I tasted various components that will go into the final blend of the promising 2022 Cornas. Readers can expect a complex rendition loaded with a juicy core of black fruits, pencil shavings, forest floor, crushed violets and iodine. Gentle dustiness and a little rustic funkiness emerge, yet they do not take center stage. Supple and expressive, the 2022 Cornas presents elevated flavor concentration alongside bright acidity, all framed within an intricate web of firm tannins. – By Nicolas Greinacher on October 2023

The legendary Domaine A. Clape is the very essence of traditionally made Northern Rhne. This world-class estate was the first in Cornas to estate-bottle Syrah and sell it under their own name. Auguste Clapes passion for the region was so strong, he even went on to become its mayor. In the world of wine, there are many good winegrowers. However, there are only a very select few who are truly great, and Auguste Clape will go down in history as one of those greats. Today, his son, Pierre-Marie, and grandson, Olivier, carry on his legacy with honor and integrity.
