The 2023 Langhe Nebbiolo is another stellar wine in this range from Burlotto. It expresses all the classicism and personality of the house style, unfurling in the glass with crushed rose petal, orange peel, mint, white pepper and cinnamon. The Langhe Nebbiolo is 60-70% declassified fruit from Barolo-designated vineyards, while the rest is from sites just over the appellation border. It spent ten months in cask. Drinking Window: 2024-2031

I cant say enough good things about these new releases from Burlotto and proprietor Fabio Alessandria. The 2021 Barolos are superb. But what increasingly impresses me here is the quality and consistency of the entry-level wines. Those offerings are an absolute guarantee of character, personality and quality. Thats something I wish I could say more often, but the reality is that the number of estates where every wine is this compelling is small. Despite all the acclaim these wines have received in recent years, the winery remains decidedly artisan in approach. The 2021 Barolos saw close to 50 days on the skins, with manual pumpovers and punchdowns. The Monvigliero is done with 100% stems and submerged cap maceration, while the other Barolos are done with fully destemmed fruit and shorter extractions. The wines are racked into cask in the fall. Time in wood for the 2021s was 33 months, on the longer side for Burlotto.
