“The 2023 Corcelette Cailloux Vieilles Vignes from Mlanie and Daniel Bouland is another absolutely stellar young Morgon. The wine comes in at fourteen percent octane in this vintage and offers up a classically refined bouquet of black cherries, cassis, gamebird, dark, stony soil tones, a touch of currant leaf, woodsmoke, espresso and a hint of violets in the upper register. On the palate the wine is pure, full-bodied, beautifully soil-driven and endowed with a stunning core of perfectly ripe fruit, with buried tannins, seamless balance and great backend precision on the long and nascently complex finish. 2033-2075+. (Mar/Apr 2025)”

The 2022 Morgon Corcelette Vieilles Vignes Cailloux exudes charm from the outset, captivating the senses with enticing notes of blackberries, licorice, figs, lilac petals and hints of black pepper intertwined with nuances of balsamic reduction and grilled meats. While boasting a sturdy structure underpinned by chalky tannins, this cuve presents as the most open-knit among its counterparts, such as the younger-vine or Sable cuves. The rich black-fruited flavors expand on the mid-palate, revealing deeper layers of ripeness in a savory guise, characterized by flavors of grilled meats and balsamic reduction, followed by a cut of wet-stone salinity that persists with the chalky tannins to guide a mouth-watering finish. Drink Date: 2024 – 2035

The discreet Daniel Bouland took over the family estate in the 1980s and now cultivates around nine hectares of vineyards in Morgon, Chiroubles and the Cte de Brouilly. Most of these vineyards are planted with old vines, some dating back to 1926, as in the Les Delys cuve. The three hectares of vineyards are farmed conventionally but with attentive work by hand tying the goblets to protect them from sun and hail. Bouland employs whole-cluster fermentations lasting the better part of two weeks, followed by maturation for up to nine months in foudres or tanks, with only small dosages of SO2 added after malolactic fermentation. The ripe, sunny 2022 vintage showcases impressive depth and muscularity, standing out as one of Bouland’s headier, more powerful recent vintages.
