92 pts John Gilman – View from the Cellar
The 2023 Bellevue Sabl from Mlanie and Daniel Bouland is an excellent young Morgon. The wine comes in at fourteen percent octane in this vintage and delivers a deep and complex constellation of red and black cherries, sweet cranberries, gamebird, woodsmoke, sweet stem tones, a fine base of soil, peonies and a nice touch of gentle spice tones in the upper register. On the palate the wine is bright, deep, ripe and full-bodied, with a superb core of fruit, fine soil signature and grip, moderate, buried tannins and excellent focus and balance on the long, youthfully complex finish. This is certainly approachable out of the blocks, but it will benefit from a bit of patience. Fine juice.

The 2023 Morgon Bellevue shows a little reduction on the nose but is armed with brisk and breezy blackberry and raspberry fruit that give way to hints of cassis. The palate is medium-bodied and sorbet-fresh, with saturated tannins and a touch of orange rind towards the linear and quite persistent finish. Very fine. – By Neal Martin on March 2025
91pts Wine Advocate
The 2023 Morgon Bellevue Sable displays aromas of baked black cherry pie, violet and a touch of coffee spice, reflecting its southeast-facing, low-yielding vineyard. On the palate, the tight-knit, sandy tannins offer a sturdy structuring, while the fruit and spice tones ascend into an airy upper register. This contrast between the grounded texture and the expansive aromatics underscores the wine’s sophistication. Drink Date: 2025 – 2032
The discreet Daniel Bouland took over the family estate in the 1980s and now cultivates around nine hectares of vineyards in Morgon, Chiroubles and the Cte de Brouilly. Most of these vineyards are planted with old vines, some dating back to 1926, as in the Les Delys cuve. The three hectares of vineyards are farmed conventionally but with attentive work by hand-tying the goblets to protect them from sun and hail. Bouland employs whole-cluster fermentations lasting the better part of two weeks, followed by maturation for up to nine months in foudres or tanks, with only small dosages of SO2 added after malolactic fermentation. The wines are deliberately crafted with an intellectual focus, prioritizing the structural intricacies of the terroirs over sheer exuberance. That said, the 2023s marked a notable progression in fluidity compared to 2022, with brighter, more refined fruit and tannic structures operating as forces in concert.
