The 2023 Cte de Brouilly Cuve Mlanie, which comes from 70-year-old vines, has a lovely and well-defined bouquet with ebullient black plum and cassis scents, hints of crushed violet and a pinch of cracked black peppercorns. The palate is medium-bodied with succulent ripe tannins, fleshy and plush yet with real structure and a long, harmonious finish. Superb.– By Neal Martin on March 2025

91 pts John Gilman – View from the Cellar
The Cte de Brouilly Cuve Mlanie from Daniel Bouland is one of his riper bottlings in 2023, coming in at 14.5 percent octane this year and was probably the last Cru to be harvested by the family. The wine offers up a deep and sappy bouquet of black cherries, black plums, woodsmoke, gamebird, stony soil tones, peonies, violets and a touch of fresh thyme in the upper register. On the palate the wine is deep, ripe, full-bodied and complex, with a superb core of fruit, fine focus and grip, moderate tannins and a long, fairly well balanced and gently warm finish. This carries its octane very nicely and is fresh as a daisy in terms of aromatics and flavors, but there is just a whisper of backend alcohol sticking out on the finish

90pts Wine Advocate
With notes of dark cherries, blackberries and graphite, the 2023 Cte de Brouilly Cuve Melanie is an impressive expression of volcanic blue stone soil. The palate reveals concentrated, sappy fruit layered with enveloping chalky tannins. Linear and focused, the wine offers moderate acidity, creating a balanced structure with a long, mineral-driven, mouthwatering finish. Drink Date: 2026 – 2033

The discreet Daniel Bouland took over the family estate in the 1980s and now cultivates around nine hectares of vineyards in Morgon, Chiroubles and the Cte de Brouilly. Most of these vineyards are planted with old vines, some dating back to 1926, as in the Les Delys cuve. The three hectares of vineyards are farmed conventionally but with attentive work by hand-tying the goblets to protect them from sun and hail. Bouland employs whole-cluster fermentations lasting the better part of two weeks, followed by maturation for up to nine months in foudres or tanks, with only small dosages of SO2 added after malolactic fermentation. The wines are deliberately crafted with an intellectual focus, prioritizing the structural intricacies of the terroirs over sheer exuberance. That said, the 2023s marked a notable progression in fluidity compared to 2022, with brighter, more refined fruit and tannic structures operating as forces in concert.
