From Ribbon Ridge, the jeweled ruby-colored 2022 Pinot Noir Whistling Ridge Vineyard is packed with ripe red cherry fruit, gravelly, iron-rich earth, anise, a hint of violets, and wild herbs. Medium-bodied, it offers ripe tannins, even acidity, and a note of salty mineral earth. Drink 2025-2040.

The 2022 Pinot Noir Heritage No. 21 Whistling Ridge is youthfully understated, blending rose petals and lavender with autumnal spices and hints of dried strawberry. Lifted and ethereal in feel, it possesses crisp wild berry fruits that lend steadily building tension as fine-grained tannins mount toward the close. Structured, long and full of citrusy nerve, the 2022 finishes with incredible length, clenching tightly to the palate.

13% ABVFermentation was non-inoculated and 100% whole cluster, in 1.5 ton lots. Whistling Ridge Vineyard sits ridge-top in the western edge of the Ribbon Ridge AVA. The vines catch the daily winds that blow in, slowing ripening, evaporating moisture, and cooling fruit. Shallow soils are eroded from uplifted marine sedimentary rock, 40 to 50 million years old, and dry out quickly in the growing season.
MarcusGoodfellowhas several exceptional vineyards he crafts world-class Burgundy-inspired Pinot Noir and Chardonnay from. Marcus grew up in Oregon and worked forEveshamWoodand counts as a wine mentor the famedCristomwinemaker, Steve Doerner. You all know how much we love his wines around here!
Eric Guido, Vinous Media, January 2024:AtGoodfellowFamilyCellars, the spring frost of 2022 reduced quantities, yet MarcusGoodfellowstyle still comes through in spades, with restraint, lower alcohol and high acidity. Compared to 2021, the 2022GoodfellowPinots are more lifted and classic in feel, and as usual with this producer, I recommend cellaring to fully explore their potential. The sparkling line-up, tasted for the first time this year, are made from Chardonnay, Pinot Blanc and small amounts of Pinot Noir, with dosages from low to zero. Ive seen many successful sparklers from Oregon, but typically, the dosage on those wines is much higher, placing them more in the Brut category. Tasting these wines atGoodfellowwas a highlight of my trip.
