A transparent red hue, the 2022 Pinot Noir Durant Vineyard is highly expressive on opening, with a high-toned profile, including notes of incense, Asian spice, white pepper, and bright redcurrants. As it opens, it unwinds with floral aromas, revealing more cherry blossom tones. Energetic and linear, this medium-bodied red is savory on the palate, with well-defined tannins, refreshingly ripe acidity, and a light herbal touch on the finish without feeling overly green. It has a very elegant feel throughout and a delicate, tapered finish. Its going to gain in intensity with time. Drink 2025-2037.

The 2022 Pinot Noir Durant entices with a sweetly spiced bouquet of wild blueberries, sweet herbs and hints of cinnamon spice. This is juicy and round, with perfumed wild berry fruits elevated by blood orange as bright-toned inner florals resonate throughout. It leaves a tactile staining of minerality and gently grippy tannins, finishing with a tinge of sour citrus that lingers on. – By Eric Guido on May 2024

MarcusGoodfellowhas several exceptional vineyards he crafts world-class Burgundy-inspired Pinot Noir and Chardonnay from. Marcus grew up in Oregon and worked forEveshamWoodand counts as a wine mentor the famedCristomwinemaker, Steve Doerner. You all know how much we love his wines around here!

Eric Guido, Vinous Media, January 2024:AtGoodfellowFamilyCellars, the spring frost of 2022 reduced quantities, yet MarcusGoodfellowstyle still comes through in spades, with restraint, lower alcohol and high acidity. Compared to 2021, the 2022GoodfellowPinots are more lifted and classic in feel, and as usual with this producer, I recommend cellaring to fully explore their potential. The sparkling line-up, tasted for the first time this year, are made from Chardonnay, Pinot Blanc and small amounts of Pinot Noir, with dosages from low to zero. Ive seen many successful sparklers from Oregon, but typically, the dosage on those wines is much higher, placing them more in the Brut category. Tasting these wines atGoodfellowwas a highlight of my trip.

12.9% ABVFermentation was non-inoculated and 100% whole cluster, in 1.5 ton lots. Durant Vineyard is farmed by Paul Durant, the second generation in hisfamilyto care for these vines. The vineyard spans from 250-700 feet of gentle, east facing slope in the Dundee Hills AVA, with their block of Pinot Noir midway up the slope at 400ft.

Notes from the Vineyard: Layered, elegant, with coffee and earth underlying boysenberry/black cherry fruit, violets, and yet loaded with finesse. The depth of the Dundee hills volcanic soils shows through, as does the vine age (25 years old now, we’ve worked with these vines since they were 12!) These vines sit halfway up the slope and face east into the morning sun. As they’ve aged they are slowly losing vigor and naturally finding a balance for the canopy, the layering gains depth while alcohols have become more modest. In five 500L puncheons, the quality was so consistent that we opted to forego a Heritage bottling from Durant this year and focus on maximizing quality in the vineyard designate.
